GeoPolicy Connect is about bringing together leaders from diverse fields and backgrounds in order to exchange new ideas that lead to longer-term solutions for our world.
We all agree that there has got to be a better way to form public policy rooted in scientific research. The goal of this event is not to have a set of specific policy recommendations. Instead, AGU’s GeoPolicy Connect seeks to set into motion a discussion that can lead to a continued break down of barriers between the science, policy, private and public sectors in the future.
Collaboration matters a lot in today’s complex world. The biggest issues, like hydraulic fracturing, require new approaches to thinking. We can no longer operate within our own circles becuase communication barriers will impede progress.
The GeoPolicy Connect dialog series will ramp up collaboration, but this is not just another workshop. Instead, this event will lead to a framework for how today’s leaders can continue to work together. Each participant will be asked to come ready to participate. Attendees will be the ones to construct a framework that promotes effective dialogue, community engagement, and sustainable investments in our future.
Even more importantly, the issues raised in these dialogs often affect other communities as well. Outcomes from one event may help inspire actions elsewhere, making the sharing of information and outcomes one of the most important results of GeoPolicy Connect.
